Empty shop is super inclusive; this means that you can not only use Empty Shop, but help out with the organisation. We are always looking for people to get involved and new opportunities arise constantly
Opportunities

Likely to be around one day’s work a week duties would include handling exhibition submissions, liaising with artists and partner organisations, basic website maintenance (training provided) and a variety of other day to day tasks. Knowing your way around MS Office would be preferable. Being friendly and flexible is a must. Would suit a graduate or artist looking to get into arts admin. All enquiries to thefolks@emptyshop.org

The roles will include the coordination of exhibitions, marketing and communications as well as insight into the day to day running of a creative space. More information coming soon.
- Volunteer – Empty Shop is a great place to volunteer and get some experience. You need to be friendly, driven, motivated, willing to learn and able to think on your feet. Our policy states that if someone is willing to volunteer their time and expertise then we will commit to making the role relevant to their interests. Let us know where your interests lie and we’ll see what we can do.
- Show video on our website – In the sidebar throughout the website we have a dedicated space for video art and short films. We feature up to fiveĀ at any one time and change the videos every month. To find out more go to the ‘Video Showcase’ page – click here
- Paint our toilet door – We like to inject creativity into a lot of things so why should the toilet be any different? We have two toilet doors that are in need of a makeover, if you would like to take this opportunity, get in touch.
- Lead a class/workshop – We run a dynamic programme of classes and workshops at Empty Shop, and we are always open to suggestion. If you are skilled in particular area and would like to run a class or course, get in touch and we will work with you to try and make it happen.
Use a space
Empty Shop is a resource for the production, exhibition and viewing of art. You can arrange to use an Empty Shop for anything you like as long as it’s art based; there are no panels to please and no opinions to conform to, it is truly accessible in this way.
Things Empty Shop has been used for in the past include:
- Exhibitions
- Temporary studio space
- Trying out work in a different environment
- Communal painting parties
- Creative events
- Classes and workshops
We occupy empty buildings on a temporary basis so we can have a number of usable Empty Shops at any one time; we also have usable workspace in our HQ along with exhibition programmes which you can apply for. If you are interested in using an Empty Shop please identify which space you would like to useĀ via the navigation options at the top of the page then send us an email detailing your requirements.
We have a very fair, first come first serve system that we operate. As a guide you can view the Events Calendar to see if anything is happening on a particular day, however this is only a guide and contacting us is the best way to clarify availability.
