4th Annual Open

Established in 2009 The Empty Shop Open is a new tradition for the North East art scene and our flagship event.
Opening on Friday 27th January and running until the following weekend the show provides an opportunity for all artists based in the area to present work of any media in a totally independent, high profile exhibition in Durham city.

We’re also presenting a number of other exhibitions across the building:

1) Artist Neil Armstrong has been invited to produce a site specific installation using found and reclaimed materials in The Pink Room.
2) Taking place at the Open we have a second opportunity for people to see Julia Tryon’s “The Scaled House” the latest installation in our Stairwell Gallery.
3) Open Studios over the 2nd Floor of Empty Shop HQ
4) And finally we’re delighted to welcome back firm favourite and Empty Shop stalwart, The Cloud Commission, who is creating an original wall mural. Very, very exciting!
