A few of The FreeBirds (the Empty Shop HQ studio group) are leaving us this soon due to nice things like University starting and moving cities; It’s sad to see them go but it does mean we now have some spaces for new members.

The studio spaces are very communal and house a total of 10 artists know as The FreeBirds.Prices range from £50 a month to £100 a month and vary in size. Studio members are based at Empty Shop HQ and as such become a closer part of the network and part of an informal advisory panel – this is more than just a studio space, we are looking for people who enjoy this collaborative aspect and are looking for a communal, creative atmosphere so please consider this before applying.

Example of how a studio space has been previously used

As a studio group we not only work individually but also collectively with a view to exhibit. So far The FreeBirds have had 3 exhibitions in the past 8 months: The first in conjunction with the Durham Art Gallery at Empty Shop HQ; the second at Made in Newcastle and the third at The Institute of Advanced Study at Durham University. Getting involved in these collaborative projects and exhibitions are optional but encouraged.
